Application Details

The following is the applicant's response to question #18 excerpted in its entirety:

"18(a). Describe the mission/purpose of your proposed gTLD.

The mission and purpose of theproposed .ice gTLD is to protect and promote the ICE brand, enhance brand trust, and focus attention on the authoritative domain for IntercontinentalExchange, Inc. (ICE).

18(b). How do you expect that your proposed gTLD will benefit registrants, Internet users, and others?

The .ice gTLD will be a closed system for use in promoting the ICE brand. IntercontinentalExchange (NYSE: ICE) is a leading operator of regulated futures exchanges and over-the-counter markets for agricultural, credit, currency, emissions, energy and equity index contracts. The trademarked ICE brand is well-known and relied on throughout the international financial services sector, and establishing the .ice gTLD will enhance the user experience as various subsidiary entities and services are readily identifed via the .ice extension. As a closed system, registrants will be limited to internal ICE subsidiaries and employees, and existing systems and workflows for application, approval, and implementation will be followed to effect second-level domain registration within the gTLD. An internal ticketing system will field requests and route them to a defined set of company officers for approval.

18(c). What operating rules will you adopt to eliminate or minimize social costs?

As a closed internal system, all registrants will be internal wholly-owned ICE subsidiaries."[3]
