IMAP

Acronym: Internet Mail Access Protocol

Refers to the protocol for accessing mail in "real-time" via an email client. Using IMAP, all mail is stored on the mail server, rather than locally. Changes made to the read/unread status, flags, as well as any sent messages are all synched to the mail server, making it possible to see these changes from multiple computers.
