NASK is the Polish national Registry for .PL Country Code Top Level Domain and ENUM numbers under 8.4.e164.arpa. Currently (2008) more than 99.8% of all .PL domain name registrations is done by NASK Registrars called Partners. Partners hold about 96% of all .PL domains, only 4% (still decreasing) have direct service.
The NASK-maintained national Registry of Internet names under the .PL domain is a fully automated system based on EPP. Full automation and Registrars’ direct access to the central database are the system’s core features, which enable about 100 Partner companies (Registrars) to enter the market with an independent offer.
NASK is the first to have introduced in 2003 registration of domains with national diacritic characters, the so-called IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names), in all European and many non-European languages. In addition to the registration of the domain names, NASK has introduced services supporting the domain Aftermarket, such as "Wait List Service" (called "option") or “Domain Name Tasting”. WLS provides the ability to option a domain name that is already registered - the option-holder has the ability to be the first in a queue to the registration of the domain name, if the current registrant cancels renewal or deletes domain name for any reason. Domain Name Tasting has been introduced in 2007 and consists of registration domain name domain for 14 days (normal period is 1 year up to 10 years) for a minimal price. .PL Registry publishes also Top 100 of NXdomains list and list of expired domains, WHOIS information are detailed (e.g. registration, modification, expiration dates).
NASK is the world’s first national Internet domain registry which have obtained the ISO 9001:2000 certificate covering the entire Internet domain registration and maintenance process. It is also one of a few national registries which have made available the main DNS servers for the national domain in the IPv6 protocol, and who enable the registration of domains with an indication of an IPv6 address. DNS updates are dynamic.
On the initiative of NASK the first arbitration court has been established at the Polish Chamber Technology and Telecommunications. According to the current Regulations domain name disputes are resolved by the Arbitration Court. In May 2008 first million registered .pl domain names has been exceed. NASK is the official representative of Poland in CERT, FIRST, Ripe, CENTR and TERENA, which gives him among others indirect right to interfere in the activities of DNS.
