Status: Proposed
Registry Provider: Verisign
Type: Brand TLD
Priority #: 984 - National Australia Bank Limited

.nab is a Brand TLD being proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant is National Australia Bank Limited.[1]

Application Details

The following is excerpted from the applicant's response to question #18:

"The new .nab gTLD will operate as a restricted registry, in which National Australia Bank Ltd (NAB) can create and control domain names within .nab to assure internet users of the authenticity and security of NAB, the provision of its products and services online and the NAB brand. The .nab gTLD will provide an authoritative and secure internet space for NAB, its affiliates and partners that are associated with the NAB brand. The majority of the anticipated domain name registrations in the .nab gTLD will be used in the communication of the NAB brand, its banking and financial services and related services. In this regard, .nab will be used to promote trust and convenience to its customers. A subset of domain names may, at a later stage, be individualised for NAB’s customers in order to provide a personal and secure user experience within the .nab space.

NAB is a financial services organisation with over 40,000 employees across the globe. NAB is ranked the 17th largest bank in the world measured by market capitalisation and operates major financial services businesses in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States. As one of the largest banks in the world, consumer trust, convenience and the protection of the NAB brand are paramount in all of its activities and NAB continuously invests in protecting its brand online to maintain and strengthen consumer confidence in the NAB brand online.

..

Given the restricted nature of the .nab gTLD, the projected number of registration is likely to be limited. It is anticipated that a more limited number of domain names (up to 50) will be registered in the first year. However, over the next few years, the number of registrations is likely to increase to about 100 domain names as NAB further utilises the .nab gTLD to increase branding potential and simplify marketing communications with its customers. As the .nab gTLD evolves and expands, NAB will keep ICANN reasonably informed of any material developments relating to the .nab gTLD, including compliance with the continued operations instrument obligations as set out in Specification 8 of the Registry Agreement."[2]
