Erik Huizer is an involved member of the ICANN community who has substantial board experience in ICT, internet, media, digital culture, and the creative industry. Since June 2012, he has been the CTO of SURFnet, a Dutch education and research network, and he has also been a Professor of Internet Applications at Utrecht University since May 2005.[1][2]

He has board experience with PIR since January 2007, and with SIDN, the .nl ccTLD registry from March 2006 to April 2014.[1] He is also the Chair of the Dutch IPv6 Task Force.[2]

Huizer is a regular ICANN Meeting attendee who has been to over ten conferences; he has also attended IGF, WSIS, and IETF.[2] He was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2014.[1]

His goals for the future include "fighting for an open, accessible, and trustworthy internet", as well as "getting all the world's NGOs online".[2]
