.sas is a delegated Brand gTLD in ICANN's new gTLD program. There were originally two brands applying for rights to the abbreviated form of their names, but Scandinavian Airlines System Group (SAS AB)'s application prevailed. The extension was delegated to the Root Zone on 18 December 2015. [1]
Current Applicant
- Research IP LLC - a wholly owned subsidiary of SAS Institute, a large software manufacturer based in North Carolina, USA.[2]
Private Auction
In November 2014, the two applicants resolved the contention set via a private auction that concluded with Research IP LLC winning the rights to the string.[3]
Previous Applicant
- Scandinavian Airlines System Group - the largest aviation company in Scandinavia, 2011 and its reported 2011 revenue was SEK 36.7 billion.[4]
