On May 31, 2012, CloudNames confirmed its application for [[.cloud]] and [[.global]] generic top level domain names ([[gTLD]]s) with [[ICANN]]'s [[New gTLD Program]]. According to Larsen, the proposed strings are competitive and good alternatives for the [[.com]] TLD for companies to increase the awareness of consumers about their products and services in a global scale.
