Rolf Larsen, CEO

CloudNames was founded by domain industry veterans dedicated to providing consultancy and management services for parties interested in operating their own top level domain names (TLDs). The company was established in 2011 and its headquarters is located in Oslo, Norway. Rolf Larsen serves as CEO.[1]

It is a new gTLD applicant.

New gTLD Applications

On May 31, 2012, CloudNames confirmed its application for the .cloud and .global generic top level domain names (gTLDs) with ICANN's New gTLD Program. According to Larsen, the proposed strings are competitive and good alternatives to .com. Larsen said, "Both .cloud and .global have their clear advantages. A .cloud domain will allow businesses and individuals to have their own cloud on the Internet. Likewise, a .global domain will allow businesses to secure a position on an international level." Afilias has been selected by the CloudNames to provide back-end registry solutions for both TLDs. [2]

.cloud has been applied for by 7 applicants, including CloudNames, while .global has been applied for by only one another applicant.
