Nancy Gofus is the COO of the Public Interest Registry (P.I.R.), which is the registry for the .org TLD. Her role gives her oversight of marketing, sales, and strategy, and it is her goal to expand the international recognition of P.I.R. through marketing efforts in new markets, as well as new campaigns in established markets. Nancy Gofus joined P.I.R. in January, 2012.[1] Nancy has also been involved in helping P.I.R. prepare its application and bid for .ngo in ICANN's New gTLD Program.[2]
Ms. Gofus is currently the Chair of the Board of Volunteers of America, which is a national non-profit dedicated to helping those in need live healthy, safe and productive lives.[3] In this capacity, she works on expanding the organization’s reach and raising awareness of its efforts in helping senior citizens, veterans, and at-risk youth, children and families nationwide. She was elected to the position of Chair in December, 2010, and she previously had served as Secretary of the Board.[4] She first came to the board in 2005.[5]
Upon Nancy's arrival at P.I.R., CEO Brian Cute praised her "unique blend of non-profit, marketing and communications experience".[6]
Previous Work
Nancy Gofus' career has largely been focused on the Telecommunications industry. She has worked in top positions with AT&T, MCI, and most recently, Verizon. At Verizon she was the Senior Vice President of Global Product Management for Verizon Communications (2009) and chief marketing officer at Verizon Business (2006 to 2008). In that role she was developing and overseeing marketing strategy, advertising, brand management, and product management. As the SVP of Business Products at MCI (2003 to 2005), she was involved in introducing MCI's new generation of services prior its merger with Verizon. It was not the first time she had worked with MCI, where she held the positions of VP of Strategic Global Services, VP of Product Management, and Director of the National Accounts Program from the early to mid 1990s.
Other positions within the telecom industry have been with XO Communications, Concert Communications, and AT&T.[7] During her time with XO Communications (2000 to 2003), she helped drive the company’s growth from $250 million in revenues to over $1 billion.[8]
Education
Ms. Gofus graduated from William & Mary College with a B.A., in Government. She now serves on the college's Foundation Board.[9]
