Registeɾ.BG is the organization which manages Bulgaria's ccTLD .bg, as well as the proposed IDN for .бг, the Cyrillic translation for .bg.[1]

Register.bg is the first TLD registry in the world to fully automate DNSSEC management and setup, and it fully supports IDNs in Cyrillic.[1]

.bg is the second TLD in the world to sign to its TLD zone. A brief history is as followsː[1]

  • 1991 – Establishment of the .bg ccTLD registry by Digital Systems Ltd. – the first and only internet service provider in Bulgaria;
  • 1991-1998 – Free of charge domain name registration and support;
  • 1995 – Introduction of required grounds for registration of the name in order to protect the subjects established in the market and in the public space, as well as the intellectual property owners;
  • 1998 – Introduction of payment for the services;
  • 2001 – Transfer of the .bg ccTLD registry from Digital Systems Ltd. to Register.BG Ltd.;
  • 2003-2006 – Development of a new modern system for automated domain name registration and service based on the Registry–Registrar–Registrant model;
  • September 2006 – Introduction of domain name registration in second-level zones (.a.bg ... .z.bg .0.bg ... .9.bg) without requiring grounds for registration of the name;
  • September 2006 – Significant reduction of the registration and support fee;
  • November 2006 – On-line payment of fees through the system for electronic payments ePay.bg;
  • December 2006 – Introduction of on-line request and setup of domain names using digital signature certificates;
  • January 2007 – Signing of the .bg zone and the sub-zones, and thus becoming the second registry in the world to sign its TLD zone after the Swedish registry;
  • August 2007 – Providing access to interface for DNSSEC management and setup using digital signature certificates, and thus becoming the first TLD registry in the world to fully automate DNSSEC management and setup;
  • August 2008 – Introduction of domain name registration without requiring grounds for registration of the name. Introduction of dispute resolution procedure;
  • August 2008 – Introduction of DNS setup with IP addresses in IPv6 format;
  • September 2009 – Introduction of IDNs in Cyrillic;
  • October 2009 – Launching of a specialized interface to registrars for operation with the automated registration system.
