.gmbh is a new generic top level domain name (gTLD) proposal to the new gTLD expansion program of the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers. Gmbh is a German term for "Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung," which means "limited liability" and it is generally used in various European countries including Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland.

Current Applicants

  1. TLDDOT GmbH- A newly established registry operator based in Germany. The application for .gmbh TLD was filed as a Community gTLD. The Association of German Internet Industry (eco eV) supports the comopany's bid for .gmbh. TLDDOT aims to provide a dedicated online space to the GmbH community, which is composed of around 1.4 million companies in Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Its back-end registry services will be provided by TLD-Box Registrydienstleistungen GmbH. [1] [2]
  2. STRAAT Investments (NU DOT CO LLC)- This is one of the 13 new gTLDs filed by the company. Its back-end registry service provider is Neustar. [3]
  3. Donuts (Extra Dynamite, LLC)- The .gmbh TLD is one of the 307 new gTLDs filed by Donuts. The company raised $100 million to support its registry operations. Donuts partnered with Demand Media to serve as its registry provider, AusRegistry to provide DNS service and DNSSEC Extension, Equinix and SuperNap to provide datacenter facilities & infrastructure and Iron Mountain to provide data escrow services.[4]
  4. GMBH Registry, LLC- The company is based in Virginia, USA. Its objective in applying for the .gmbh TLD is to provide a trusted and secure domain name space for GmbH entities and their consumers around the world. The company chose Verisign as its back-end registry service provider.[5]
  5. InterNetWire Web-Development GmbH- The company also plans to provide a trusted domain name space for GmbH entities. If approved by ICANN, it will validate each registrant's application to ensure that they are legitimate GmbH entities.Registry.Net was selected by the company to provide back-end registry services.[6]
  6. Google (Charleston Road Registry Inc.)- This is one of the 101 new domain name strings proposed by the search engine giant through its subsidiary, Charleston Road Registry Inc. The entire technical registry operations for the TLD will be provided by Google.[7]
