.reit is a Community being proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant is National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, Inc.[1] "REITs are companies that own and most often actively manage income-producing commercial real estate; they were first established in the United States in 1960 and now exist throughout the world. Although the U.S. remains the largest market (in terms of market capitalization), REITs are becoming increasingly prominent throughout the world."

Registration will be restricted to official REITs (pronounced "reets") as defined and recognized by relevant national laws.[2]
