.shiksha is an active gTLD that was propsoed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The Registry and manager of the TLD is Afilias.[1] The proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 18 January 2014.[2]
GAC Early Warning
The application was issued a GAC Early Warning by the government of India. The warning system is noted as a strong recommendation on behalf of national governments to the ICANN Board that a given TLD application should be denied as it stands. Applicants are encouraged to work with objecting GAC members.[3]
The Indian warning notes that the TLD translates to "education" from Hindi, and as such should be associated with officially and legitimate educational institutions in India as deemed appropriate by the government itself.[4]

Contract Signed
On 14 November 2013, Afilias received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .shiksha after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[6]

.shiksha was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on January 18, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2]
