.yun is a gTLD delegated to the Root Zone in ICANN's New gTLD Program on 30 March 2016.[1]

Applicants

  1. QIHOO 360 TECHNOLOGY CO. LTD.[2]

Previous Applicants

  1. Amazon

Amazon has withdrawn its application for this string follow GAC advice.[2]

Amazon's application was issued a GAC Early Warning by China. The warning system is noted as a strong recommendation on behalf of national governments to the ICANN Board that a given TLD application should be denied as it stands. Applicants are encouraged to work with objecting GAC members.[3]

The warning states that the string relates to a geographical area in China and that Amazon's application does not have any government support.[4]

Although the United States government initially opposed the GAC objection to geographic-looking strings such as .yun, they put out a statement in July 2013 that revised their position, saying it would remain neutral in the case of .yun, thereby allowing the GAC to present a consensus objection regarding the string and all of its IDN versions.[5]
