The South School on Internet Governance (SSIG) trains new leaders in all aspects related to Internet Governance, from a global perspective and with focus on the Latin America and Caribbean Region. The program trains university and postgraduate students from the region and from the rest of the world to understand the complexity related with Internet Governance and its importance in the future of the Internet. SSIG 2016 takes place from 29 March-1 April in the Organization of Americas States (OAS) venue in Washington, DC. All the activity program can be followed remotely with video streaming and audio channels in Spanish and English.

The Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is a set of Domain Name System (DNS) extensions which enables communication authentication between hosts and DNS data, while ensuring data integrity.
On 1 October 2016, 18 years after the creation of ICANN, it's contract with the United States Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration expired, marking the official transition of the oversight of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority to the global multistakeholder community.
