The Emergency Assistance Program is an ICANN initiative designed to support access to Internet infrastructure during emergency situations, such as natural or man-made disasters. This program is intended to be a part of ICANN's ongoing activities. ICANN organization (org), as requested by the ICANN Board, developed a framework for this program based on the process through which ICANN contributed $1 million in emergency financial support to the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster for continued Internet access during the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.[1] As of January 2023, the next step is for ICANN Organization to hold a process for Expressions of Interest and select organizations with a global reach that support Internet access and recovery for local populations during emergencies and disasters. Then ICANN org will coordinate with the selected organizations to determine if a monetary contribution is appropriate. The total monetary contribution will not exceed U$1 million and could include a combination of small and large contributions.[2]
